Prayer In Spiritual Warfare

Pastor Donald Menga preaches a dynamic and encouraging message for the Christian believer of today. Surrounded by temptations, distractions , the world, flesh and satanic opposition he ( or she ) needs to stand firm and engage prayer in spiritual warfare.

The Heavenly War

The born again Christian has a diabolical foe; the ancient serpent called the devil who at all times opposes him and seeks to devour him.  The heavenly war continues, The battle is often hard and gruelling.  The apostle Peter writes ……..

1 Pet 5: 8, 9  – Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in your faith

But the he true believer in Christ has the power of the precious Holy Spirit that  bears him up above all satanic hindrances and trials. Although the conflict is often so severe that even the regenerate Christian may be cast down he will rise again!  He will rise up and renew his combat with faith and valour.  It is the lot of the Christian to overcome, (1 John 5:6)  He, (or she) will not bow to the customs, opinions, or interests of this fallen world.  Faith is the cause of victory.  It is the means and the instrument of spiritual warfare and, the spiritual armour by which he overcomes the world.  The overcomer has by faith we cleave to Christ, in contempt of, and in opposition to the world.

Jesus Tempted By The Devil In The Wilderness

Our precious saviour left His glorious heavenly throne to be with us. He wanted to be with us. What a magnificent wonder that the mighty God of eternal ages and all things always set His heart on mankind – even sinful mankind. Prefigured as ” wisdom” in the Book of proverbs we see One who came from The Father and who from eternity set His heart on the ‘sons of men’.

Prov 8: 27 to 31 – When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,
When He assigned to the sea its limit so that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as [g]a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him,
rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men.

Every man or woman living is tempted to sin. Our saviour loved us so much – wanted to be identified with us so much that He shared our temptations while fasting in the wilderness. Jesus tempted by the devil in the wilderness knew the fierce power and suffering of awesome temptation as he fought the diabolical prince of darkness on our behalf.

Command These Stones Into Bread

The devil used an “IF” to challenge the reality of our Lord’s divine sonship and eternal nature. “IF you are the Son of God command these stones into bread” he challenged, (.Mat 4;3). This challenge is often made by satan to the born again believer. For the Christian who is an ” adopted son” satan attacks the believers regeneration causing him or her to doubt their salvation.

Temptation To Prideful Presumption

The second temptation the devil assailed our Lord with was the temptation of prideful presumption. God understands that every man should be ambitious and zealous to accomplish something good and noble. Every person ought to have a holy ambition to serve God for His glory in this life; he should set a righteous aim before him. No man ever accomplishes anything unless he has ambition. Because the word has been misused is no reason why we should refuse to recognize its possible good use. Ambition may be an inspiring, ennobling force. Using the term in relation to Christ, we may recognize his ambition to save and bless the people of his day, and in the end all humanity. He would be the Messiah they needed.
