Pastor Donald Menga takes his opening text from Genesis chapter 18 concerning Abraham’s divine appointment with God. For Abraham this was a day of divine visitation. He encourages the Church to look forward with eagerness and anticipation to these special times ordained by God when suddenly he appears in our lives, bringing forth impact or a faith filled promise.
In this appearance of The Angel of The Lord (The pre-incarnate Christ) we see the divine and wonderful condescension of God. “The Lord” here with 2 angels condescends to take human form; He has not yet left heaven and come to earth as true man but here we see a foretaste of His coming amongst us truly taking our human nature (John 1:14). Our glorious God has from eternity loved and had a special destiny for the “sons of men.” In the book of Proverbs chapter 8, the Son of God is seen as “wisdom” delighting in mankind with a love that reaches to eternal everlasting:
Proverbs 8: 22 thru 31 – Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of his way, Before his works of old. 23I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, Before the earth was.
24When there were no depths, I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. 25Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills was I brought forth; 26While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, Nor the beginning of the dust of the world.
When he established the heavens, I was there: When he set a circle upon the face of the deep, 28When he made firm the skies above, When the fountains of the deep became strong, 29When he gave to the sea its bound, That the waters should not transgress his commandment, When he marked out the foundations of the earth; 30Then I was by him, as a master workman; And I was daily his delight, Rejoicing always before him, 31Rejoicing in his habitable earth; And my delight was with the sons of men.

His Perfect Timing
Abraham had a long history with God before the Lord appeared to him as recorded in Genesis chapter 22. All this time he had “dealings with God” and a history of blessings and trials that would end in his spiritual advancement, Sometimes it seems to us that God is moving slowly in our lives but we must learn to trust His perfect timing. There are also special times from God when we are full of God and are able to be a blessing to others spiritually. The bible speaks of these times as ” bearing fruit in season”. The godly man or woman has ….
…..his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, (Psalm 1:2).
Because we as his children are slow to learn and often even rebellious, it takes our Lord sometimes many years to bring us to a ” certain level” . Don’t be impatient my friend. when Jehovah seems to be doing nothing – that is the very time when he is working most in our lives. We can thank God that His patience is wonderful. It is the divine persistence of God that brings us step by step into spiritual maturity.
God’s Persistence With Abraham’s Failures
As we look at the call of Abraham to leave the idolatrous land of Ur of The Chaldees in Genesis we see many victories; however Abraham also had many failures. For example he committed the same identical sin twice! His wife Sarah was a very beautiful woman and out of fear that she would be taken as another mans wife and he killed he lied on both occasions by saying that she was his sister, The book of Genesis contains two well-known accounts of Abraham lying about his wife Sarah. These are found in Gen. 12:10–20; 20:1–18. 1,. In each of these accounts Sarah is then taken from Abraham. However it is amazing how God’s persistence with Abraham’s failures trouble ensues for those who have taken her, and Sarah is then returned to Abraham.
