SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM
Matthew the Lord’s apostle has admonished and encouraged all who place their faith in Christ as saviour to ‘ go for the gold’ of God’s kingdom!
Math 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (kJV)
BUT SEEK
In the previous verses to verse 63 Our Lord Jesus had told us OF HOW NOT to be! Not to be like the unsaved who having only a temporary earthbound hope worry. They are concerned only with earthly things. Jesus told His followers not to be over concerned with earthly striving coming from a lack of faith……….

Mat 6: 25 to 32 – That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
28“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31“ So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. (New Living Translation)
Jesus is saying to the kingdom seekers, “ Don’t worry and fret over earthly matters. Have faith in the God who has a wonderful divine purpose for your lives. You my disciples have more important business to employ your minds about, and have higher hopes to encourage you.
SEEK FIRST – AS PRIORITY
Therefore seek first — That is, in the first place, and with the greatest earnestness and concern, as being the principal things, the kingdom of God —as described in Paul’s letter to the Romans ….
Rom 14: 17, 18 – The Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. (NLT)
When we first come to Jesus and are saved by putting our trust in him we receive God’s righteousness to cover our sin. God counts us righteous ( good) and free from all condemnation. The “ goodness and peace” mentioned in verse 17 is not that initial righteousness and peace with God that we receive with the new birth. Rather, It is the MORAL CONDITION of righteousness and the peace with our fellow men that follows as a result of the Spirit of God living in our hearts. These are characteristics crowned in the confirmed Christian by the indwelling presence in his heart of the Holy Spirit. God wants us to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in strengthening the effects of His goodness, peace and joy
The Urgency of This Hour
In Epesians 5: 16 we read these words from the lips of the apostle Paul. “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. ” The actual New Testament Greek language says that we should “redeem” the time. The idea is to reclaim something which could be lost; we must save time in view of the urgency of this hour in which we are living. It is an hour of world wide spiritual darkness. Jesus is returning soon for us and we only have one life to live on earth. One life to bring glory to God and to achieve His purposes. Let’s remember that Satan is always tempting us with distractions, trying to block our advance. Must move forwards in Wisdom. The apostle Paul gives us the following exhortations on how we should live as the redeemers of our time.
Be Wise For Jesus
The English Standard Version of the bible tells us “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, My brother and sister in Christ, let’s be wise for Jesus.
